Maple Leaf String Art | Canada Day Crafts | Spectacular Summer Blog Hop #8

O Canada! We’re so excited to be celebrating 150 years of you! In honour of our country’s 150th birthday, I thought it would be fun to work on some Canada Day crafts, so off I went to my crafty stash. Just a few minutes later, I had whipped up a fun and simple little piece of string art in the form of Canada’s emblem: the maple leaf. Let me show you how I created this jaunty addition to my Canada Day decor.

I’m also one of the token Canadians in our Spectacular Summer Blog Hop group, so now – after me posting all those Fourth of July ideas – it’s their turn to post something about Canada Day! 😉

Canada Day Crafts | DIY Canada Day Wreath in Red and White | There for the Making | The Zero-Dollar DIY Challenge

Who here loves a good craft? *raises own hand* Who here loves a good craft that celebrates your national holiday? *raises both hands* Who here loves a good craft that celebrates your national holiday and costs ZERO DOLLARS? *raises both hands and feet* For the June edition of There for the Making – the Zero-Dollar DIY Challenge, I used items I already had in my craft stash to create a simple, cheerful Canada Day wreath in red and white for our front door. I remember making Canada Day crafts back when I was little (crafting has always been a part of my life), so I feel like I’m getting in touch with my roots with this project.

In case you’ve missed the memo (or if you lives elsewhere than Canada!), we’re celebrating our country’s 150th birthday on July 1st! Naturally, this is a cause for much hoopla and general celebration, and it means that the July 1st excitement is getting extended ALL YEAR! I thought it would be nice to display our Canadian pride with a fun, whimsical wreath.

Painted Geometric DIY Flower Pots | There for the Making: Earth Day!

DIY flower pots | There for the Making | Earth Day Project | Painted Geometric Flower Pots

Today I’m getting up on my soapbox to talk about two things that make me tick: budget-friendly projects and environmentalism! Earth Day is this Saturday, April 22nd, and I am so excited to share an eco-friendly project with you. It also happens to be the second edition of There for the Making, my new zero-dollar, no-spend DIY challenge! We can do so much for our planet by reusing what we have, shopping our own closets and storage before driving to the store to buy MORE, and repurposing things that would otherwise end up in a landfill. This month’s challenge was all about getting into the spirit of reducing, reusing, and recycling, so I took three mismatched old pots and gave them a cool new look. Let me show you how I breathed new life into my DIY flower pots!
