Painted Geometric DIY Flower Pots | There for the Making: Earth Day!

DIY flower pots | There for the Making | Earth Day Project | Painted Geometric Flower Pots

Today I’m getting up on my soapbox to talk about two things that make me tick: budget-friendly projects and environmentalism! Earth Day is this Saturday, April 22nd, and I am so excited to share an eco-friendly project with you. It also happens to be the second edition of There for the Making, my new zero-dollar, no-spend DIY challenge! We can do so much for our planet by reusing what we have, shopping our own closets and storage before driving to the store to buy MORE, and repurposing things that would otherwise end up in a landfill. This month’s challenge was all about getting into the spirit of reducing, reusing, and recycling, so I took three mismatched old pots and gave them a cool new look. Let me show you how I breathed new life into my DIY flower pots!

DIY Sponge-Painted Picture Frames | There for the Making | How to upcycle thrift store picture frames

When I blogged about my 2017 goals, I alluded to a special series I was starting here on Flourish & Knot. Well, today I am so excited to be bringing you the very first instalment of There for the Making: the Zero $$ DIY Challenge! I have corralled an absolutely fantastic group of fellow bloggers to join me in creating something using what we already own. This is the ultimate chance for us to upcycle, repurpose, and generally use up our DIY stashes! I have a feeling our families are all really happy that we are having to purge our supply closets and bins… For this first There for the Making edition, I decided to give some thrift store picture frames I’d had for a few years a major facelift.

I used an incredibly simple, yet effective, painting technique to revamp my blah frames. All you need is two colours of paint, a brush, and a sponge and you are set!

Easy to sew "warm heart" DIY hand warmers | DIY Valentine's Day gift | Beginner sewing project

Who else feels that Valentine’s Day has become too commercial? Hands? Anyone? Well, I do, which is why my hubby and I often go handmade for our Valentine’s Day gifts. Today I’m joining some of my fellow Canadian bloggers to bring you DIY inspiration for injecting some handmade style into this lovey-dovey holiday. If there’s one thing that we Canucks know, (you know, other than hockey and universal health care) it’s COLD WEATHER, so I thought it would be nice to make a few DIY hand warmers as a little Valentine’s Day gift. These are really easy to make in case you are looking for great beginner sewing projects!

Today’s hop is hosted by Jo-Anna of A Pretty Life in the Suburbs. Jo-Anna blogs from Calgary, Alberta, and she has lots of great home decor, recipes, and DIY projects on her site. Stick around to the end of this post to visit all the other lovely participants’ blogs!

These hand warmers are a perfect sewing project for beginners. You can even hand-sew them easily if you don’t have access to a machine! And the stitching on the edge is just a plain blanket stitch. I’ll show you how to assemble them in no time.
