Back in March 2020, a talented team of Montreal-area vendors put together this impressionist-inspired modern boho wedding shoot. (And I was thrilled when it was published on Wedding Chicks!)
This imagined winter wedding at the Verger du Flanc Nord was such a joy to create: truly one of my favourite design moments of 2020. Today I’m sharing all the details from this gorgeous, modern boho Mont-Saint-Hilaire wedding shoot.
This creative project came together through the hard work and insane talent of a group of female-driven Montreal wedding vendors. Inspired by the Impressionist paintings of Claude Monet, the blue, cream, and terracotta colour palette harkened to the earthy apple orchard setting. We incorporated touches of modern boho wedding style, but elevated to an elegant refinement.
The vendors who came together to create this beauty were:

The bouquet was one of my favourite floral pieces to create, because I got to really flex my all-floral muscles. There was zero greenery in this design, and I incorporated some of my absolute favourite blooms: pale blue delphinium, toffee roses, cymbidium orchids, and some fab dried product such as stipa grass and lunaria. All tied off with super-luxurious silk and velvet ribbons from Maisonnote. Perfection!
For the groom, I went with a design that was a little more adventurous than the standard boutonnière: a floral pocket square, made of dried and fresh materials. This is such a great look and I’m excited to be making some of these for my future grooms. It sets his look apart from the male attendants, while still maintaining consistency and not being too over-the-top. Love it!
Because this shoot took place in March, we went with an indoor set-up for the ceremony, while still drawing inspiration from our apple orchard surroundings.
I created an entirely floral foam-free installation, designed on vintage apple picking ladders provided by the venue. We accented the florals with some gorgeous silk chiffon draping for a super-romantic feel. A rug incorporating our palette and some modern lanterns from La vie est une fête completed the look.
A gorgeous sweet table was put together by Hanadi of Little Leah’s Kitchen. I just love everything she creates – it’s like edible fine art!
The table design ramped up the colours and vibe a little – something I love to do for real-world clients! While it’s important for the reception look to feel cohesive with the ceremony design, it’s fun to add a little extra drama or make things a little more playful for the second portion of the celebration.
To give a slight variation to the palette, I incorporated some orangey parrot tulips into the table florals. Instead of a traditional flower or foliage runner, I created individual arrangements in hand-thrown ceramics by Studio Laroche. It is always such a joy to design in speciality vessels such as these! In order to protect the finish of the ceramic pieces, the only mechanics I used for these arrangements was a waterproof tape grid. Simple but effective!
Wouldn’t this just be the best set-up for an intimate wedding? With Covid still a factor, many couples are opting for smaller gatherings in 2021 (and maybe 2022… who knows?), and one of the silver linings of a reduced guest list is more budget to spend on stand-out florals and decor!
Our fabulous planner and stylist, Ludivine from Lulucoeurdebeurre, pulled together the entire shoot so smoothly. This is what happens when a group of talented creatives are united under a clear design vision!! Soooo important. She and her handy hubby built a really cool backdrop for the seating chart display featuring Deux Amoureux’s gorgeous stationery.
The stationery featured ribbons from Maisonnote, and included an invitation suite, menus, and of course the sweet little seating cards!
Other fine details included the beautiful jewelry from Atelier Epure, ceramic place settings from Studio Laroche and VdeV, and little hand-stamped cookie favours from Little Leah’s Kitchen.
Photographer Kerstin Hahn took advantage of the perfect winter light to shoot a few pics outside as well! I am such a sucker for a winter wedding. How incredible are these shots?
Winter weddings offer the chance for some really unique photos, especially if you live in an area like Montreal that usually gets lots of snow! My best friend got married during the winter and I will never forget how magical her day was. (Despite the fact that it took place during a major snow storm!)
I’m so glad that we squeezed this shoot into 2020! It took place just one week before Covid shuttered everything, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to collaborate with my fellow vendors before our world shifted. It’s hard to believe that this was only a few months ago… The good news is that LOVE isn’t cancelled! Intimate weddings are having their moment, and I – for one – am a HUGE fan.
