Colourful summer wedding inspiration | Bridal bouquet in bright palette | Summer wedding in Montreal | Flourish & KnotIf you love COLOUR, then this next one is for you! S + J’s late-summer, at-home wedding in Montreal was an absolute joy to design, because I got to work with almost every colour and texture under the sun. I love a refined palette as much as the next designer, but it is so liberating to let loose and just play with COLOUR! Here’s a peek at their stunning late summer wedding in Montreal.

S+J didn’t want a big giant affair: they had what I would call the epitome of a fabulous micro-wedding. 35 guests total, fantastic decor and florals, delicious food, and incredibly personal touches. I absolutely loved designing for them because S came to me with a clear vision, but still allowed me to create a totally custom look. Always so gratifying! With the Covid-induced trend towards smaller, more intimate weddings in 2021 and 2022, engaged couples should take a leaf out of S+J’s book!

These beautiful photos are by Sadie of L’Orangerie Photographie. She was an absolute pleasure to work with, and her photos are just lovely. S’s makeup was done by Elizabeth D’Amico and her hair was by Coiffure Amy

It was built by the bride and her father, and I got to really let loose with a total riot of late summer colour! The florals featured locally-grown dahlias, zinnias, gomphrena, Chinese lantern, snapdragons, gladiolas, and lisianthus. I also incorporated lavender stock and the most fabulous ‘Free Spirit’ roses. It featured a tulle tallit studded with pearls. All the heart eyes…

The cake topper was one of those florist-to-the-rescue moments that happen on even the most well-planned wedding days (and S and her mom had done an amazing job of planning the whole thing!). I love how sweet it turned out!

So how fantastic are the elongated centrepieces? S came to me with a vision of flowers flowing down the table, interspersed with romantic candlelight and fine details. I created these long arrangements completely foam-free, using primarily locally-grown blooms. It is always such a joy to design with a colour-packed palette! The ghost chairs added a subtle geometric detail, without getting in the way of the colourful and elegant table setting. Such a good choice! This is also an excellent example of how important ‘negative space’ is to a good table design. Add too many elements and the design gets overwhelmed and everything blurs together. A good floral designer or event designer should be asking « what else is going on the table » before even discussing the style and size of the florals and other decorative touches! Place settings, cutlery, serving ware, glassware… you need to take it all into account.

Of course, the floral star of the day was the beautiful bouquet I got to make for S. Incorporating all of the rainbow of colours into a classic spiral was SO much fun! One of my favourite details from the day was that S wore her mother’s wedding gown. I also got to wrap the bouquet in a piece of family heirloom lace. Incorporating touches like those into your day make it truly memorable and personal.

Here are a few more shots from S+J’s colour-packed intimate wedding. To see more of my work, head over to my portfolio.
