The One Room Challenge, hosted by Calling it Home, is now in full swing, with participating bloggers making fabulous progress on their rooms! If you’re tuning into my Harry Potter nursery ORC makeover for the first time, be sure to catch up on my week one and week two posts.
Around, here, we’ve made some significant progress this week. We’ve finished painting (yay!) except for the closet, which we’ll complete this weekend. We’ve also made a start on some of the furniture pieces that needed painting. We’ve sanded down the dresser, which will serve both as storage and as a changing surface. (Of course, when I say “we”, I really mean my wonderfully helpful husband.)
We’ve also worked on the antique Windsor rocking chair that we’ll be using for feeding. It’s been in my family a long time, so it feels only right to give it a spruce-up and a place of honour in our nursery. So far, we’ve sanded and cleaned it, and I’ve managed to put on the first coat of white paint. It needs a second coat, but it looks a lot better than what we started with:
As you can see, the finish was in pretty bad shape. This chair has undergone many transformations over the years… I’m pretty sure there’s about six layers of paint on it!
The layout is another aspect we’ve made progress with this week. There are some definite holes in our plan still, but I think we’ve got a good starting point. Please forgive the hand-drawn layout: I’m not great with photoshop, so I tend to do things old-school.
I’m pretty excited that I arrived home one day this week to find two big boxes from UncommonGoods sitting on my doorstep! I am thrilled and honoured to be working with them on this nursery, and I can’t wait to share with you the items they’ve contributed. (A few weeks ago, I had a chance to partner with them to create a science-themed nursery mood board, so I’m pleased to work with them again so soon!) In the meantime, you can always browse their selection and take a guess at what caught my eye…
I hope to have some of the furniture in place for next week’s post. We’re headed into week four of the One Room Challenge, which means that we need to put the push on to be ready for the big week six reveal.
Our to-do list seems to get a bit smaller, then grow as we remember things we’ve forgotten to add! Three steps forward, one step back…
